GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ST. JOHN'S

We emphasize Bible studies, and mission outreach. Many of us live
in the county, outside Bellingham's city limits. A warm welcoming
spirit exists in our church family. We provide special ministry for
people with diverse handicaps. We have an outstanding small choir
under the direction of Kathleen Ash-Barraclough, and an ethusiastic
Sunday School.

We are in the countinuing process of re-discovering God's mission for
us as we move into the future.

We are an active friendly bunch! Try us--you'll like us!

MISSION STATEMENT

St. John's exists to bear witness to the Lordship of Jesus Christ over
our individual lives and over all history. We bear witness best when
we live as He lived, serving people's physical and spiritual needs
through participation with community and church agencies and organizations.

BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR CONGREGATION

Organized as a mission church in 1890, the congregation dedicated
the building on Kentucky Street in 1891 with sermons in three languages:
German, Norwegian, and English.

The English language was first used regularly for worship in 1925,
with some services still held in German. The current church building
at Cornwall and North Streets was dedicated in 1956. In 1963, Ebenezer
Lutheran Church merged with St. John's. For many years, services were
conducted by St. John's pastors at the Ten Mile Chapel.
